Biography

Mr. Zhong Shan, a Han Chinese, is a native of Shangyu County, Zhejiang Province. He was born in October 1955, started his career in July 1972 and joined the CPC in June 1974. Mr. Zhong holds a PhD in economics from Zhejiang University and is a Senior Economist.

Mr. Zhong worked successively as General Manager and CPC Committee Secretary of Zhejiang Textiles Import & Export Company, Chairman, CPC Committee Secretary and General Manager of Zhejiang Zhongda Group Co., Ltd., and Chairman and General Manager of Zhejiang Zhongda Group Holding Co., Ltd. He was appointed Director General and Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Zhejiang Province in December 1998. In January 2003, Mr. Zhong became Vice Governor and member of the CPC Committee of Zhejiang Provincial Government. In November 2008, Mr. Zhong was appointed Vice Minister and member of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce. In July 2010, he was appointed Vice Minister, Deputy China International Trade Representative and member of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce. Mr. Zhong served as China International Trade Representative (ministerial level), Vice Minister and member of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce from March 2013. He was appointed China International Trade Representative (ministerial level), Vice Minister and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce in June 2014. Zhong Shan took office as Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of MOFCOM and Minister of Commerce in February 2017.

Zhong Shan is a member of the 19th CPC Central Committee.
